Going Solar
If you own a home you have most likely considered, if even for just a minute, getting solar panels installed. We can hardly go a day without seeing an ad or hearing about solar power on the radio. But with so many different companies out there, rebates and the idea of going off the grid, where do you start and is it all worth it or not? And really that is a loaded question. There are so many different factors you must consider.
Will the rebates help cover the costs? Is my house situated in a way that I can even consider solar? Can my roof handle the panels?
Today we are going to cover your roof. With so many solar companies starting up all over the place we hope you will do your research before signing on the dotted line. Many of these companies are growing so quickly that they only have time to train the technicians on how to install panels and not on what to look out for on your roof.
Aaron Nitzkin, CEO of Solar Roof Dynamics reported that "after one rainstorm last year in California, as many as 40% of the roofs with solar installations were leaking." That is an alarming amount of leaking roofs after just one storm. Leaking and damaged roofs are a sign of inexperienced or careless install technicians.
Headaches will come quickly if they damage your roof while moving heavy panels, use improper installation techniques or leave tools and leftover materials around that will clog up your rain gutters. Heaven forbid you aren't informed your roof will need updating in the next couple of years. You will want to do your research, ask for references and consult a roofing company prior to signing up.
